AP Exclusive: US Scientists Try 1st Gene Editing in the Body

University of Minnesota scientists contributed to the preclinical work that led to the first-ever clinical trial of a gene therapy that edit the DNA from inside the body. 

If it's successful, it could give a major boost to the fledgling field of gene therapy. Scientists have edited people's genes before, altering cells in the lab that are then returned to patients.
