Michelle Biros to Serve as Deputy IO for Biomedical Research
Vice President for Research Allen Levine has appointed Michelle Biros, M.D., to serve as deputy institutional official (IO) for biomedical studies for the University of Minnesota’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), effective May 1, 2018.
Dr. Biros has significant experience and knowledge as a physician, researcher, and administrator. She is currently the Ernest and Bernice Ruiz Professor of Emergency Medicine and interim department head of the University’s Department of Emergency Medicine. She also serves as PI on several NIH research projects. In her new role, Dr. Biros will partner with the Human Research Protection Program leadership team to review and implement best practices and ensure that human research protocols meet the highest ethical standards. She will also serve as a liaison between the IRB and the UMN clinical research community to field questions and concerns and to assist researchers with issues that arise.
