Public Lecture: “The State of Science and the Need for STEM Advocacy”

In a free lecture on April 12, 3M Corporate Scientist Jayshree Seth will summarize the findings of the 3M State of Science Index, a global research initiative to uncover what people think of science. These findings underscore the importance of reducing real and perceived barriers to science appreciation and STEM education as a way to ensure a robust pipeline of future scientists to provide solutions for complex challenges and a society that accepts those solutions.

Seth will also discuss the impact of the pandemic on the public perception of science and how we can all play a role in science advocacy and advancing diversity in STEM. Additionally, she’ll cover her unique role as 3M’s first chief science advocate.

This is the second installment in the College of Science and Engineering, University of Minnesota’s “Rising to the Moment” public lecture series. The lecture will be held at Coffman Memorial Union and begin at 6:30 p.m. Learn more or register for the free event.
