How do I research?

student_with_test_tubeStep 1: Stop Thinking You Don't Know Enough

Albert Einstein received the Nobel Prize for work he published at age 26. All University of Minnesota students, including first-year students, are capable of successful research and creative activity, when they make these explorations a priority.

Step 2: Make A Plan

Check out the Research Gallery at the left hand side of this page to learn how other students started their research and creative activities. Follow the links below to learn more about research and creative opportunities. Talk to instructors—professors, TA's, whomever—that you have or have had for a class. Ask your friends or other students in your classes. Take all the information you have gathered and make a plan.

Step 3: Go For It!

Try your plan! Don't be afraid of rejections. You only need one acceptance, so keep trying, even if your first or second or third try doesn't work.

Step 4: Desperation!

Come to the Undergraduate Research Office in 109 Appleby Hall, call us at 612-625-3853 or email Marvin Marshak or Vicky Munro.
