Proposals for UROP projects for Summer or Fall 2014 will be due by midnight February 24, 2014. Only one application may be submitted in each funding round. Notification for projects occurs 6-8 weeks after the deadline. Links for submitting your application, proposal and for faculty mentors to submit their recommendation forms are on the Everything UROP page. Start Date: Most Summer UROPs need to start on or after July 1, 2014 as this is new fiscal year money. Exceptions may be granted for growing season or travel limitations. Contact the UROP Office with questions.
A number of agencies and groups sponsor summer research experience programs for undergraduate students. Google searches will find websites for many of these programs. Many have deadlines in January or February. Some specific links include:
University of Tokyo Summer Research Internship Program (natural sciences)
Summer Symposium: August 2014. Specific date to be announced in the late spring.
NCUR : Undergraduates who have completed or are in the process of completing a research project may apply for funding: you do not have to be a UROP awardee. The student and faculty travel assistance applications are in the Forms Library. Information on NCUR 2014 and University funding will be announced shortly.
Winchell Undergraduate Research Symposium : undergraduates in the sciences (including the social sciences and engineering) can do a poster or oral presentation. April 26, 2014; Abstracts are due March 21, 2014.
UMD Showcase: an opportunity to do a poster or oral presentation on the Duluth campus on April 17, 2014. Deadline for registration is March 28, 2014.
The International UROP Scholarship is now available for spring 2014 international research projects. The deadline is November 1, 2013. The fall 2014 deadline will be May 1, 2014. This program is for students participating in select credit-bearing study abroad semester programs through the Learning Abroad Center.
