A letter from University President Robert H. Bruininks on the importance of subject protection in research
The mission of the University of Minnesota is deeply connected to the conduct of research. It is of critical importance to the reputation and future of this institution that we remain committed to the highest standards of research integrity in all work conducted in our institution.
Those standards reflect a commitment to the protection of all who are involved in or are the subject of research. Those protections include ensuring that anyone involved in research fully understands his or her rights as the subject of research. And that includes the welfare of animals that contribute so much to the advancement of health science.
It is the commitment of this institution and of the governance overseeing this institution that all research will be conducted following strict ethical standards, as well as within all Federal, state, and local regulations and procedures. Our researchers and scientists share that commitment and are diligent in their work to protect human and animal health and welfare.
Our heritage demands it. Our future depends on it.
Sincerely,

Robert H. Bruininks
President
