Large Animal Handling

Working with large animals such as cattle and horses can put the animal handler at risk of injury. Large animals can bite, kick or fall. Handling large animals often takes experience, understanding and patience. Fearful or painful animals are more likely to injure their handlers. Poor equipment, poor handling facilities or conditions such as slippery floors can also increase the likelihood of injury.

If you are working with cattle or horses please review Dr. Temple Grandin's article on safe handling of large animals at: www.grandin.com/references/safe.html

If you are working with pigs, goats, sheep or calves please review the pertinent information on the RAR website: www.ahc.umn.edu/rar/handling.html
