Everyone at the University of Minnesota using controlled substances for research and teaching must follow
Policy 2.1.4 - Using Controlled Substances for Research.
Each Unit (usually a department, but sometimes a different administrative structure) must appoint a Unit Registrant
who will be the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registrant. Each laboratory within a Unit must appoint a Location
Registrant who will obtain a Minnesota Board of Pharmacy (MNBP) registration and be responsible for the controlled
substances at that location. The individuals who use controlled substances for research and teaching are called Authorized
Users. Everyone who has any role in controlled substances use for research or teaching must sign the
Authorized Users Signature Log.
