RCR Continuing Education Awareness/Discussion
Small Grants Program
Purpose: To Support RCR Awareness/Discussion Requirements
  • Funding is intended for the development and organization of learning activities on research/professional ethics topics. UMN Faculty and principal investigators (PIs) must participate in and report activities that meet the requirements of continuing RCR education once every three years. RCR core courses (RCR Parts 1 and 2) do not fulfill the continuing education requirement).
  • Grants may be used to cover costs for arranging educational events on research/professional ethics topics – space rental and travel/lodging and/or honoraria for guest speakers.
  • Grants may be used to cover the cost of conference attendance and travel by a UMN faculty member when followed by development or delivery of a research/professional ethics-related educational activity for a UMN department, college, or other unit.
  • Grant proposals will be considered for funding up to a maximum of $3500.
Eligibility
  • Full-time faculty and PIs are eligible to submit proposals for this grant.
  • Recipients of the RCR Continuing Education Awareness/Discussion grant within the past two years are ineligible for funding.
Selection Criteria
  • Application is complete and fully addresses all criteria.
  • Proposal meets the criteria for RCR Awareness/Discussion continuing education activities. For further information please visit the RCR/FIRST Web site: http://www.research.umn.edu/first/ContEd.htm
  • Proposed activity/event directly benefits the broadest possible group of faculty/PIs/graduate students in your discipline.
  • The requested funds fall within given parameters and are clearly allocated to the development or support of learning activity on research/professional ethics topics.
  • We encourage proposals for cross-discipline activities and collaborative events where appropriate.
  • The proposal illustrates opportunities for active, engaged learning for participants in proposed events.
  • Proposal establishes a presenter's expertise and knowledge of research/professional ethics, RCR education policies and principles.
  • If the proposal designates funding for attending a conference, the proposal includes a clear plan for development of a follow-up research/professional ethics-related educational activity for a UMN department or college.
  • Exclusions: Food and beverage costs; retroactive requests (for past events); funding for the same person for the same conference or effort for multiple years; funding for annual series.
