What is Innovation by Design?
The University created Innovation by Design as an open-ended innovation framework to bring together some of the brightest minds from the University and from industry in collaboration to address compelling market needs that defy solutions from a single discipline.
Who is leading this program?
Vice President Mulcahy selected Gary Smaby to spearhead the Innovation by Design program. Gary is a veteran Minnesota-based entrepreneur, analyst, and venture capitalist. He also served as an advisor to Vice President Mulcahy during the redesign of the University's technology commercialization programs.
In addition, Gary has been a VC-in-residence for the University's Office for Technology Commercialization and the professional director of the Carlson Ventures Enterprise program in the Carlson School of Management.
