Effort Certification

Innovations include:

Done
An Effort Listserv to address communication needs between effort certification system owners and users.

Done
A new Lead Effort Coordinator role with additional rights, including the ability to add names to the list of researchers working on a grant.

What's next?

Beginning in July 2007, the University will reduce the number of effort certification periods from four to three.

Beginning in July 2007, the University will base the effort reporting calendar on semesters.

A combined checkbox to certify effort on nonsponsored accounts while maintaining compliance with effort regulations.

A tool for staff to use to monitor faculty whose effort on sponsored accounts reaches 90 percent.

A system change that will facilitate the Lead Effort Coordinator's ability to enable staff with suitable means of verifying an employee's effort (such as a lab coordinator) to certify that employee's activity.

A posting of ECRT system changes available in the next version of the software giving users the ability to provide recommendations or suggestions.

Proposal Routing Form (PRF)

Innovations include:

Allowing department heads and deans to delegate signatory responsibility for the form

Eliminating the need for co-investigator signatures to process a proposal

Re-engineering the form to allow parallel routing

Accepting electronic PRFs for fully-electronic proposals

Accepting PRFs and budgets separately from the scientific parts of the proposal and ahead of the deadline, when technically possible

Requiring a revised PRF only for revisions with significant changes like budget changes of at least 25 percent, changes in key personnel effort, or cost sharing/matching commitments.

SPA no longer requires detailed budgets for NIH modular grants at the time  of application.
