Training & Certification

Certification Options

In accordance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies, all personnel at the University must complete one of the two options listed before they are eligible to work with animals (See training requirements below). Neither IACUC approvals nor authorizations to animal areas will be granted until certification is complete.

Certification for Visitors

For visitors who will be working under the direct supervision of a certified animal user and have already completed mandated training at their own Institution.

Training Requirements

Group		Requirement
•	University employees and students working with laboratory or agricultural animals	Complete online animal use tutorial.
•	Visitors who will be working under the direct supervision of a certified animal user (i.e. will never contact an animal without a certified animal user present) and have already completed mandated training at their own Institution.	See Visitor Certification Instructions.
•	Students who are part of a classroom project using animals	Read Part I: Ethics of Animal Use in Research of the IACUC Animal Use Tutorial.
•	All personnel who will contact specific pathogen-free (SPF) rodents or nonhuman primates	Complete online animal use tutorial AND attend species-specific training through Research Animal Resources (RAR).
