Which IACUC Form to Use

Activities with Animals

Form to Use

Biomedical research involving non-agricultural and agricultural animals. Use this form for all experimentation with animals and for teaching and training protocols.

Animal Usage Form

Animal breeding that does not involve experimentation with the animals.

If you will be breeding animals for multiple protocols, use this application form.

For experimentation with these animals, use the Animal Usage Form to apply for specific experiment approval. List animals used from a breeding protocol on the Animal Usage Forms as being "transferred" from a breeding protocol.

Breeding Protocol

Maintenance of agricultural animals for purposes of breeding, production, or display on University property. No experimentation can be performed on animals maintained under a SOP.

Examples: maintaining a production herd(ie. swine, cattle), horses maintained by clubs on campus

Agricultural Husbandry Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

Procuring or using antibodies produced by animals outside the University that are customized for a particular project. (This does not include antibodies that are bought "off-the-shelf".)

Custom Antibody Production Usage Form

Displaying or using animals for service purposes.

Examples: the horses used by the St. Paul mounted police, the animals used as models in art classes, and fish displayed in tanks in University buildings.
