The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee has the regulatory responsibility to ensure that animals are used appropriately and cared for humanely. IACUC reviews all activities involving animals to ensure that they are justified and conducted per established animal welfare guidelines. This includes research, teaching, and display of University of Minnesota-owned animals.
Research Animal Resources (RAR) provides husbandry services and facilities; veterinary medical services; and consultation on the essential information, guidelines and contacts for researchers regarding animal ordering, animal husbandry, veterinary care, experiments, surgery and more.
Using lab animals in research has led to treatments that have improved and saved lives around the world.
