Reporting the Awareness/Discussion component

Activities that can be used to fulfill the Awareness/Discussion component of the RCR continuing education requirement may be sponsored by the University of Minnesota, by another university or by an academic or professional organization. The activity might be a lecture given by someone with expertise in the topic, a conference or professional meeting, or a structured discussion among colleagues.

Reporting U of M sponsored events:
If the event is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research or another U of M unit, online registration will generally be available. Therefore, no self-reporting will be required. If you think your record is incomplete or have any questions, please contact us.

Reporting all other activities/events:
To self-report your completion of the Awareness/Discussion component of the RCR continuing education requirement, use these directions to fill out the University’s “Self-Report Completed Training” form.

1. Print these directions.
2. Go to: https://onestop2.umn.edu/training/personalTrainingRecord.jsp
3.

Log in when prompted. Your personal training record will load. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Report completed training…” to access the self-report form.
4.
Enter the title of the event (30 characters maximum)
5.
Enter the start date of the event (MM/DD/YYYY). If reporting committee participation or teaching, use the first meeting date of your term/class.
6.
Enter the end date of the event (MM/DD/YYYY). If reporting committee participation or teaching, use the last meeting date of your term/class.
7.
Enter the length of the event in hours using decimals.
For example, 1 hour = 1.0, 90 minutes = 1.5, etc. When reporting committee participation or teaching, use the average length of 1 meeting/class.
(Note: The RCR continuing education requirement is not based on the length of the session. It is, however, a required field on the reporting form.)
8.
Enter the provider of training (e.g., name of professional association or academic society). When reporting committee work use the committee chair for the provider.
9.
Check as the “Reason for Training” › "Responsible Conduct of Research - To record instruction in ethical and professional topics" (last option on list)
10.
Enter a brief description of the educational activity and how it relates to the ethical conduct of research.
11.
Click the “Report Course” button.
12.
You will be prompted to review what you have entered: “Is the following information correct?"
OR
If it looks correct, click the “Yes; Report It” button.
If it is not correct, click the “No; Edit It” button, and you will be returned to the prior page to correct the information you entered. When you have corrected the information, click the “report course” button (step 9 above). You will again be prompted to review (step 10).

Done! Thank you for recording your participation in this activity, and completing the Awareness/Discussion component of the RCR continuing education requirement.

Please be advised, once you update your record, it takes 48 hours to process through data warehouse and EGMS. If you have any further questions, please contact us.
