eRSS Mission Statement
Under the umbrella of the OVPR, eResearch Systems Support supports the faculty, staff, and students of the University of Minnesota by providing electronic research database systems which streamline business processes and facilitate compliance with external regulations.
In fulfillment of this mission, we supply electronic solutions for outdated manual processes, promote collaboration through use of electronic enterprise database systems, and provide support to our valued customers.
eRSS Functions
eResearch
Systems Support (eRSS) functions to serve the OVPR and the University’s
faculty and administrative staff by providing electronic research
systems that streamline business processes. In order to provide
electronic systems the eRSS unit engages in various functions including:
- Analyzing business processes and gathering business requirements
- Working with OVPR business units to define business process inefficiencies and determining IS solutions
- Writing system specifications for new applications and enhancements to existing applications
- Communicating with developers and providing business and technical knowledge of developing applications
- Creating and managing software development and implementation plans
- Providing testing and overall quality assurance of all electronic research system solutions
- Providing continued support and maintenance of all electronic research systems
- Providing communication to the user community related to development of and changes to electronic research systems

eResearch Systems Applications
EGMS: EGMS (Electronic Grants Management System) is a series of databases with a Web front-end that you can use to complete proposal forms for submission to sponsors and University forms related to sponsored projects or research.
eRESEARCH CENTRAL: eResearch Central is a central location where researchers and their staff can access the University's electronic research-related documents and forms.
REPA: The REPA (Report of External Professional Activities) form is used to report external professional activities and business and financial interests in accordance with the University policies that govern external professional conduct, activities, and interests.
ECRT: Effort Certification and Reporting Tool. The ECRT system is a web-based technology that is designed to help researchers comply with the provisions of the University of Minnesota's effort reporting policies, federal policy OMB Circular A-21 section J.10., NIH Salary Limitation on Grants, and other relevant agency policies that govern the need to provide certification of an individual's effort pursuant to his/her sponsored and non-sponsored programs.
ROHP: Federal Regulations mandate that all persons having contact with animals in research be enrolled in an occupational health program. The University of Minnesota’s Research Occupational Health Program (ROHP) consists has two major components – a training component and a medical component.
