Research News Online Submission Guidelines

Research News Online is an e-mail newsletter published twice a month by the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR). Research News Online is published on the second and fourth Friday of every month, but is not published in weeks where the second or fourth Friday falls on a University holiday.

Guidelines for Submitting Research News Online Articles

  • Scope: All articles should focus on research policies, procedures, events, or funding opportunities at the University of Minnesota. Because this is a University-wide publication, they should also be of interest to as wide an audience as possible.

  • Submission Deadline: Articles must be submitted by noon on the Wednesday prior to the Friday of publication. However, earlier submissions are appreciated. If submitters have alerted the OVPR communications team that an article is forthcoming, and the submitted article is clean (correct length and format, and well-written), submissions may be accepted after the deadline.

  • Submission Method: Articles must be submitted electronically using the resnews@umn.edu address.

  • Article Length and Style: Articles must be brief—ideally they should be comfortably under 100 words, with a maximum of 150 words. The RNO provides a brief overview of topics, then links to more information on external Web sites. This format allows faculty/researchers to skim the publication for the information of interest to them.

  • Supporting Documentation: The editorial staff will include in articles links to information that is available on the Internet, but will not post documents related to an article. If an article is submitted along with information to link to, the editorial staff will return the linked-to information and request that the sender post it on their server.

For more information, send e-mail inquiries to resnews@umn.edu or call the Research News Online editor, Amy Danielson, at (612) 625-1453.
