1. Stimulus Bill Web Site and Listserv Updates

 
The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is posting up-to-date information about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Stimulus Bill) on our Web site (http://www.research.umn.edu/stimulus.html) and has created a listserv for the University research community. To get breaking news, you can subscribe to the listserv by e-mailing listserv@lists.umn.edu.

Within the next few days funding agencies are expected to begin posting more detailed info about their Stimulus Bill programs on their Web sites. We will send out information via the Web site and listserv as soon as it becomes available.

If you have any questions or suggestions as to how we might be of assistance, please send an e-mail to stimulus-res-info@umn.edu.

2. Public Engagement Symposium: Community-Engaged Research

The Office for Public Engagement will hold its second Spring Public Engagement Symposium on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, 9:00 a.m – noon in the A.I. Johnson Great Room, McNamara Alumni Center.

This symposium, Meeting the Standards of Scientific Inquiry in Community-Engaged Research, features a panel of distinguished researchers and federal agency representatives who will discuss the role of community engagement in conducting high quality scientific research. The panelists will present their perspectives on how community engagement is viewed within the national funding agencies that support scientific research.

3. Controlled Substance Training


The Office of Regulatory Affairs is offering controlled substance training for anyone new to using controlled substances for research. 4. Funding Opportunities and Program Announcements

  • The Healthy Foods, Healthy Lives Institute is requesting applications for community engagement grants to fund innovative community-university partnerships related to food, nutrition and health. Projects should include participatory action research, or other creative strategies for addressing community-identified problems by bringing together academic and community partners.   • The National Science Foundation's Virtual Organizations as Sociotechnical Systems program supports scientific research directed at advancing the understanding of what constitutes effective virtual organizations and under what conditions virtual organizations can enable and enhance scientific, engineering, and education production and innovation.   • The Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) has released nine of the ten program announcements for fiscal year 2009 funding mechanisms and Awards. The funding opportunities may interest any level of researchers interested in prostate cancer research funding.
