2. Training Sessions on New Policy for Clinical Research
All clinical research projects requesting services from University of Minnesota Physicians and/or Fairview are required to conform to the Clinical Research Budgeting and Billing policy (www.ahc.umn.edu/ocr/crbb/policy). Principal Investigators (PIs) or delegated staff must use the new database, Time and Study Collection System (TASCS), to delineate the services, drugs, devices, tests, and procedures rendered for clinical research. In addition, the PI (or designee) will also identify who is responsible for paying for each service, drug, device, test, or procedure. PIs or their staff need to be trained to use the TASCS system,
which went into effect on September 1.
Additional training sessions have been added on October 14, November 18, and December 16; the complete schedule and registration information are available at www.ahc.umn.edu/ocr/crbb/tascstraining.
Questions about this policy can be sent to Assistant Vice President for Research Mark Paller at palle001@umn.edu. Questions about the training program or procedure can be sent to Debra Dykhuis, Office of Clinical Research, at dykhu001@umn.edu.
3. Controlled Substance Training
The Office of Regulatory Affairs is offering controlled substance training for anyone new to using controlled substances for research. The training session is scheduled on November 13, 2008. For full details and to pre-register, visit https://onestop2.umn.edu/training/courseDetail.jsp?course=RA0001
For more information, contact Cathy Marquardt at marqu005@umn.edu or 612.625.9624.
4. Personal Protective Equipment Requirements
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the University Office of Occupational Health and Safety have established requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that proper safeguards are in place for human and animal health. These requirements were established by a group of experts in occupational health and safety, animal care and use, and regulatory requirements. The requirements are effective immediately and are available at http://www.ohs.umn.edu/ohs/ppe/index.htm.
Principal Investigators are responsible for ensuring that all personnel working with animals are fully informed of the requirements and have the necessary equipment. These requirements apply to all persons who care for or use research animals at the Academic Health Center, College of Liberal Arts, and Hormel institute.
If you have questions about these requirements, please contact the University Office of Occupational Health and Safety at 612.626.5008 or uohs@umn.edu.
