1. Executive Director of Research Integrity and Oversight Hired

Vice President for Research Tim Mulcahy is pleased to announce that Michele Chin-Purcell, Ph.D., has accepted the position of Executive Director of the Office of Research Integrity and Oversight in the Office of the Vice President for Research.

Currently the Director of Global Compliance at Boston Scientific, Dr. Chin-Purcell will join the OVPR on September 8. An alumna of the University, Dr. Chin-Purcell brings a wealth of relevant experience to the position and will be a great addition to the University’s compliance environment.

With Dr. Chin-Purcell's hire the OVPR is also restructuring some of its compliance functions. A revised org chart reflecting these changes is available at http://www.research.umn.edu/

2. Grants.gov and Adobe Reader

Grants.gov announced last week that it had completed testing of the recently released Adobe Reader 9, and concluded that it is compatible with the Grants.gov Adobe forms packages.  Adobe Reader 9 joins versions 8.1.1 and 8.1.2 as options for users when completing their Grants.gov packages.

Remember that Grants.gov has naming conventions for attachments for their form sets. Each attachment must carry a unique name with fewer than 50 characters, containing no spaces or special characters.

3. Powell Center for Women’s Health Internship Program

The Powell Center for Women’s Health is continuing their internship program that connects students with faculty members and community organizations that have an interest in women’s health issues. They are currently accepting applications from interested students for this fall and winter. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply. University faculty and staff (who are members of the Powell Center) are encouraged to submit project proposals related to research in women’s health.

Please visit www.womenshealth.umn.edu/wmhlth/intern.html to view current opportunities, download an application, and to receive more information.

If you have any questions or would like to have an intern work with you on your project, please contact the Powell Center at wmhealth@umn.edu or 612.626.1125.
