The work of the members of the University's research review committees has long been a source of pride and genuine appreciation for the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR); and on October 3, 2006, the OVPR was pleased to host an event to recognize all of the committees for the first time at the Campus Club in Coffman Memorial Union on the Twin Cities' East Bank campus.

"These important review committees are an external manifestation of the University's commitment to research integrity, the ethical treatment of research subjects—both animal and human—and the safe conduct of research across campus. This event is a small token of our appreciation for the fabulous job each committee does in service to the University of Minnesota," said Vice President for Research Tim Mulcahy.

There are thirteen committees at the University, serving to ensure principled research, to safeguard proper use of human and animal subjects, and to uphold the standards mandated by federal and state agencies as well as the University of Minnesota's Board of Regents.

The committees are made up of a diverse and devoted group of volunteers from different colleges across the University's five campuses and of various specialties; each committee also has a community representative. Thus, these committees can boast the extensive knowledge and experience that enables them to review a wide range of research projects.

The OVPR would like to invite interested members of the University community to join a research review committee and to use their expertise in the service of the scholarly works of faculty, staff and students and in support of the University's research mission.

Please contact Richard Bianco, associate vice president for research, Regulatory Affairs & Institutional Official for Subject Protection, by phone 612-625-5914 or by e-mail at bianc001@umn.edu for more information.
